Annual Rock & Gem Show Simply OUTSTANDING! Rocky Mountain Minerals
Featuring dazzling crystals, minerals, fossils and meteorites. See how rocks are cut and polished. See how unique jewelry is created using the wonders of nature. Dealers, Demonstrations and Exhibits Also at the Wichita Gem & Mineral Show, we will have our fluorescent room, come and look at the marvels of nature under a black light! For the kids we have grab bags, a spinning wheel, and a Jr. rockpile. The grab bags include several mineral, fossil and rock specimens. Spin the wheel for a treasure, go into the rock pile and fill a paper bag with all sorts of neat rocks. And of course while you are there, don't forget to check out the silent auction table, and the "Gem Hunt."

Programs Education Day, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. School groups, including home-schoolers, are admitted without charge if arrangements have been made in advance. Contact Patti Clough at (316)210-7380 or pat_clough@hotmail.com Those registered in advance attend a 30-minute rock/mineral identification class. This is a hands-on experience using different means of testing actual specimens. Students inspect exhibits, including displays of vendors. Grab bags with 10 specimens and a stone necklace are available for $1.50, and digging in the rock pile for a bag of “prize finds” is $.50.
"Inside the Majestic Rocky Mountains" -- Dr. Jerry Simmons of Barclay College, Haviland, KS will explore historic mining districts describing the aesthetic and economical important minerals. Tectonics, structures, and volcanism will be explained. This geologist shows how the Rocky Mountains are involved in our society providing pleasure, jobs, history, as well as geological information.
"Dinosaurs of the Rockies" -- Mike Wingo, dinosaur research specialist, will use fossils with models and replicas to show the landscape and climate that was home to these fasciniating critters. Dinosaur fossils have been found around the Rocky Mountain uplifts, primarily in the Morrison and Cretaceous formations.
Rocky Mountain minerals and sparkling crystals will be shown along with dinosaur bones and eggs and displays by WGMS members and vendors.
Junior rock pile, gem hunt, gem wheel, grab bags, demonstratons and exhibits.
